The Brief

Stedman Associates Ltd is a company specialising in CAD services including drawings, plans, elevations and isometrics. Our brief was to come up with a clean and easily navigable design that reflected the company colour scheme and included their logo. The site was to be divided into three sections, each covering a separate area of speciality and the client wanted to include video footage of a 3D Fly Through - one of the company's latest features, and something very well worth promoting This was achieved by using Flash to encode the avi file and can be seen on the live site.

The solution

The site was built using a flexible width layout that fills the browser window whatever its size. As some pages would naturally be longer than others according to their content, we suggested that the masthead, which incorporates the company logo, was stretchable so that it fills the entire width with the content, navigation and footer below it. Quite a tricky job to design, we managed to code it with CSS so that the site would be table-free and appear consistent whatever page was being viewed, and as Internet Explorer does not render this layout well, we had to include a "fix" so that it became consistent in that browser as well.
